      <image:caption>Kavon Atabaki is a Falls Church native, having been born and raised in the Little City. He grew up enjoying sports, exercise, and just about any other type physical activity. After seeing his older brothers’ biceps double in size overnight, he knew resistance training had to be his new focus. After years of education, experimentation, and teaching, his suspicions were confirmed; strength and movement help everyone! Kavon worked as a trainer in commercial gyms, retirement communities, and on-the-go in people’s homes, but still hadn’t found the perfect situation to train in, until… In 2011, after 5 years in the fitness industry, he teamed up with Thomas Abbey to form Functional Fitness VA. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries.       <image:caption>Madison loves putting together smart, targeted training to help clients of all ages start building strength, get back to activities they enjoy, or pursue whatever goals are meaningful to them. She was an elite college miler until overuse injuries led to a years’ long journey through physical therapy, surgeries, etc. and she discovered firsthand that the most lasting way out of chronic pain / chronic injury is getting stronger. Before joining the Func Fit team she worked in corporate wellness and consulting, so she understands the desk life, its effect on the body, and how to correct for it. She’s recently joined the HYROX cult and has had fun challenging herself and dropping some fast solo and doubles times in the process. Her favorite activities are running, open water swimming, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and generally anything that involves moving and being in nature. Check out her classes on Weds nights (5:15pm Small Group), Thurs nights (6pm Kettlebell, 7pm HYROX Run), and Sat mornings (8am HYROX Training).       <image:caption>It’s all about the Barbell. Well, mostly… your body has something to do with it as well. This class is meant to get you stronger, period. We will focus on the classic barbell power moves: Squat, Overhead Press, Bench Press, and the Deadlift. There will be appearances by other strength-increasing movements such as pull-ups and rows, and maybe a plank here and there, but the stars of the show will be those barbell power movements. If you want to learn the barbell movements, get better at them, or just get stronger, this is the class for you.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Move is a class revolving around moving (we know, it’s an original name). This class focuses on the whole “Move Better.” part of our slogan. We will explore different ways to mobilize and stretch your body, then take the newer, more flexible you into some movement patterns. Crawling, rolling, rocking, bending, hanging, squatting, lunging, are just a few of the patterns. Where this will differ from any other workout is that we will be steadily trying to improve the way you move and the “workout” will happen because we’re improving your ability to move. This class can be a great alternative to Yoga or Pilates while still being its own original class.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Want to improve your HYROX time? Or just be well-prepared for your first Hyrox? Since the run portions make up over half of the event, you better be training your running! Madison (former Div. I XC/track runner, Sub 1:15 HYROX Competitor, CPT) leads this class in a running-based interval workout, which may include other HYROX elements mixed in (aka “compromised running”). The run intervals will involve going outside the gym, so dress appropriately. This class is also appropriate for people training for non-HYROX running events like road races, etc. and for people who generally acknowledge the value of cardio and have a high tolerance for suffering. Where this will differ from any other workout is that we will be steadily trying to improve the way you move and the “workout” will happen because we’re improving your ability to move.
